The idea of the first horse race in our town was born in 1981, commemorating our Hajdú ancestors and the Hajdú traditions in a worthy way. The horse day, which was established with the intention of preserving tradition, has gained a prominent place in the series of summer events in Szomboszló over the past 40 years.
In the past 4 decades, the Kösely Cup has kept its basic characteristics: a prestigious competition, spectacular additional programmes, an excellent recreational opportunity for the whole family. From 2020, its most important goal is to promote the traditional Hungarian horse breeds and the national equestrian culture, and to strengthen the national consciousness.
