Martial arts, literature, Zen, calligraphy and the everyday culture of this distant island nation will come together on 3 October in Hajdúszoboszló.
„More than just sport – a journey to yourself.” It is in the spirit of this idea that the ‘Path of the Rising Sun’ Japanese Martial Arts and Cultural Festival welcomes visitors, offering a full day of varied programmes through which they can gain a deeper understanding of Japanese traditions.
The morning programme will feature works by contemporary Japanese authors, followed by an official opening ceremony, a haiku competition and a Zen demonstration.
In the afternoon, the spotlight will be on the martial arts: masters and practitioners of aikido, Okinawan Goju-ryu karate, kobudo, kenjutsu and Shotokan karate will be demonstrating their skills. Later on, the audience will also have the chance to hear the masters’ thoughts first-hand during a round-table discussion.
Throughout the day, the event also offers visitors the chance to try out various Japanese traditions and forms of movement for themselves, ranging from calligraphy and aikido to traditional martial arts.
