Hajdúszoboszló is commemorating Endre Szász, who was born 100 years ago, with a special exhibition. The exhibition showcases the life’s work of one of the most exciting figures in modern Hungarian art through paintings, prints, illustrations, tapestries and porcelain.
Endre Szász was born in Csíkszereda; he spent his childhood in Kaposvár and his youth in Marosvásárhely. As a leading figure in 20th-century Hungarian fine art, he became renowned not only in Hungary but also abroad. His exhibitions have been a great success in many parts of the world.
Many people know the artist’s name from his book illustrations, graphic works, paintings and the unique designs featured on Hollókő porcelain. The commemorative exhibition in Hajdúszoboszló presents a comprehensive selection of works from these areas.
One of the highlights of the exhibition is that visitors can also view some rarely seen coloured porcelain pieces. These are true rarities, as the best-known works by Endre Szász are those featuring gold and black decoration on a white background.
The highlight of the exhibition is the Muse a painting entitled [title], which depicts Endre Szász’s wife, Katalin Sz. Hajdú. The painting is of personal significance and also establishes a special connection with Hajdúszoboszló, as the artist’s wife was from there.
The exhibition presents Endre Szász’s rich body of work, his technical versatility and his visual world, which is unlike anything else, to the public.
