2 September 1606 is a significant date in the history of Hajdúszoboszló: it was on this day that István Bocskai issued his charter of privileges, in which the prince settled his mounted Hajdú troops in Szoboszló.

To mark the 420th anniversary, on 2 September 2026 the town will pay tribute to the ancestors of the Hajdú people with a series of celebratory events. In the afternoon, local authority honours will be presented, followed at 5.00 pm by a town ceremony at the Bocskai equestrian statue, featuring a brass band, a celebratory programme and a wreath-laying ceremony.

The event will feature, amongst others, the Debrecen Garrison Band, members of the Bordó Sárkány band and dancers from the Szoboszló Folk Dance Ensemble.
