Zoo Debrecen has been welcoming visitors to the Zoo Debrecen in the magnificent trees of the Great Forest since 1958. It was the first zoo in the countryside to open its doors and has been growing and expanding ever since. From a small space at the time of its foundation, the zoo has grown to 17 hectares, home to around 1,500 specimens of 185 species from five continents. Zoo Debrecen is currently involved in 42 species conservation programmes, the largest number of such activities since its inception.
Founded in 1960 as „Ludas Matyi Amusement Park”, it celebrates its 65th anniversary this year. Since 1961 it has been operating together with the zoo and is now known as Zoo Debrecen.
Debrecen's Amusement Park is the largest permanent amusement park in the Tiszántúl region, where 24 different games - including Döbrögi's Enchanted Castle, Dodgem, Ferris Wheel, Apollo X - entertain visitors. The park's real specialities include museum-worthy toys, such as the Horse-Riding Ride, built in the late 1800s, and the Little Railway, which transports passengers to the miniature dam reserve.
In addition to the games, the Amusement Park also features the Tropical House, the Camel and Fallow Deer Paddock and the Palm House. The Enchanted Castle of Dögrögi houses an exhibition on the history of the theme park.
In recent years, the Park has added new toys, including the Worm Rollercoaster, Nostalgia Car and Flying Spinning Wheel.
