St László Roman Catholic Church

The Catholic Church of Hajdúszoboszló, the Roman Catholic Church of St. László, was built in Baroque style in 1776.

The frescoes adorning the interior of the Roman Catholic church are the work of the ecclesiastical artist István Takács, and were painted in the 1930s. The artwork combines religious themes with features that have shaped the town’s life, such as the discovery of the medicinal waters and the proximity of the Hortobágy. With these frescoes, the Catholic church on Bocskai Street is considered one of Hajdúszoboszló’s unique features. An interesting fact about the church is that John Paul II, whilst Archbishop of Kraków, also visited this place of worship.
