Cracking the whips on New Year’s Eve
The New Year whip cracking (the so-called “csergetés”) has a three hundred year tradition. As far as we know our ancestors on December 31, 1559 frightened off the Turkish army threatening Szoboszló with cow bells and whip cracking. Supplemented with new attractions each year an army of horse wranglers on the last evening of each year drive away the “evil powers” and we say farewell to the old year with high calibre concerts and fireworks.

Folk art and folk dance shall be in the focus during the last weekend of July. In the colourful commotion the masters of folk art await people interested with a wide variety of performances in the street of craftsmen. In the evenings folk bands, soloists, dancers of national and international reputation will make the evening really memorable.
